Women’s empowerment is a cornerstone for any nation's holistic development and empowering women through skill development can achieve gender equality and foster economic growth. Many women, particularly in countries like India, face significant obstacles in accessing skill development and career advancement opportunities due to societal norms.

The census 2011, counts the women population at 48.5% of the total population in India. Recent data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation shows a positive trend in women's participation in the labour force. In 2019-20, the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for women was 30.0%, which increased to 32.5% in 2020-21, and further to 32.8% in 2021-22. Similarly, the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) rose from 28.7% in 2019-20 to 31.7% in 2021-22. These numbers indicate a growing number of women in the country are joining the workforce. However, despite their significant contributions, most women remain confined to informal jobs due to a lack of employment opportunities and skills.

Women in India have long demonstrated their prowess in various fields, from education to business, art, politics, and science and technology. Yet, despite progress, there remains much ground to cover in ensuring equal access to opportunities for women compared to their male counterparts. Women who have taken breaks from their careers, whether to start a family or for other reasons, often face challenges related to feeling outdated in terms of current technologies and skills needed to re-enter the workforce. They may encounter insecurities upon returning to a workplace that has evolved significantly during their time away, leading to feelings of apprehension and uncertainty. Interestingly, a recent study has shed light on the transformative impact of upskilling on women's professional journeys, particularly those who have taken career breaks. Findings reveal that 75% of women who invested in upskilling found it significantly easier to re-enter the workforce after a hiatus.

Demand for upskilling courses is soaring not only in top metros but also in Tier 2/3 towns and cities, driven by the need to enhance employability in an increasingly competitive, unpredictable, and demanding job market. Indian women, today, are at the forefront of the upskilling wave, driven by various motivations ranging from re-entering the workforce to securing better jobs or staying relevant amidst technological disruptions.

In today's professional landscape, women's career advancement encompasses a journey marked by skill acquisition, leadership development, and navigating the intricacies of organisational growth. These initiatives encompass flexible training modules, virtual learning platforms, and targeted workshops aimed at enhancing both technical prowess and soft skills. Through mentorship, women in technology gain invaluable guidance, support, and networking opportunities, facilitating seamless transitions and paving the way for sustained success.

Moreover, the evolution towards inclusive workplace cultures is reshaping organisational dynamics, with Indian companies echoing the global trend of prioritising diversity, equality, and inclusivity.
